Fostering a sense of community during a crucial period of development for girls

5 things to know about the Nautilus Program

Ashley Hall Admission | Charleston, South Carolina

  1. A close-knit community within the Upper School, the Nautilus Program has an engaging faculty who support and honor the developmental stage of each girl during this important time. Fun events, like evening socials and team-building activities, are organized throughout the year to provide additional opportunities for the girls to get to know one another better.
  2. Each girl is a member of a small advisory group that meets each morning and several times throughout the week. Advisory time encourages healthy bonding, ownership, social and organizational skills, and academic support.
  3. To bolster the girls’ Upper School experiences, each grade participates in local experiential trips tied to cross-curricular lessons, an annual class trip for educational and class bonding purposes, and numerous community activities. A signature community initiative features the girls serving as student docents at Charleston’s Gibbes Museum of Art.
  4. A robust math and science curriculum is offered with a dedicated Math & Science Lab staffed all day and after school where girls can work together or one-on-one with a faculty member. Each January, the entire eighth grade class participates in a STEM trip through Disney Youth Education Series. Students spend three days at Disney World where they study the evolution of technology at Epcot and energy and waves physics at the Magic Kingdom. Students also spend a day at the Kennedy Space Center. Seventh grade students learn scratch and python coding as part of their enrichment series.
  5. Girls can choose two arts electives per year: theater, dance, visual arts, choir, or strings to see where their artistic interests lie. Students may also join an athletic team including a variety of bantam, junior varsity, or varsity sports.
